What are Synonyms?

Synonyms are two or more words which have the same meaning. Advanced search engines recognize when a query has synonyms in the corpus and return documents which are relevant to the original query as well as documents relevant to the synonym(s).

In Swiftype

Swiftype users can create custom synonym sets in their user-friendly account dashboard to synchronize results for different queries of the same meaning. For instance, imagine an ecommerce store that sells pants but only lists these products with the word "pants" in the title. In this scenario, users who search for "jeans" or "chinos" would see no results. To prevent this, Swiftype users can create a synonym set for "pants," "jeans," and "chinos" to synchronize results for all three queries.
