What is Autocomplete?

Autocomplete - also known as typeahead or autosuggest - is a language prediction tool that many search interfaces use to provide suggestions for users as they type in a query. In general, autocomplete menus drop down below the search bar as users type and change with each keystroke to provide increasingly accurate predictions. Autocomplete menus can be formatted in a wide range of styles, from basic menus listing only query suggestions to more advanced menus which break into multiple sections and provide brand, product, author, category, or other suggestions.
