What is Facets/Faceting?

Faceting (also known as faceted search) is a search tool that allows users to narrow down a large set of results on an SERP by selecting one or more criteria that the results must adhere to. For instance, a user who searches for "sweater" on an ecommerce search engine will at first see many options, but may want to narrow his/her options to only orange sweaters by clicking on a color selection checkbox.
